Learning buildings - combining the venue for work and for learning

The term and concept "Learning Buildings" were both born in the beginning of the 1990's as a result of the joint efforts of Ari-Matti Auvinen, Tapio Koskinen, Arto Kukkasniemi and Juha Sarakorpi. When the Helsinki University of Technology's Continuing Education Centre moved to Dipoli, these men reflected on how the design and execution of the layout of the Centre's premises could be used to speed up the continuous learning and development processes occurring in the working environment.

The numerous projects that had been carried out around the themes of Learning Organisation and Intelligent Buildings provided much of the basis for these considerations - and at the junction of these two themes, the concept "Learning Buildings" was born.
